Court Proceeding Particular Murder Case â⬠Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Court Proceeding Of The Particular Murder Case? Answer: Introduction: The report is focussed on the murder trial of the case Hedi Ayoub that is proceeding at New South Wales Supreme Court (FLSW 2014). The report is based on the court proceeding of the particular murder case and throws light on the various aspects of the court proceeding. There are certain things that I have come across through the court case and certain practical things have also came to my knowledge (Goodall 2015). There was a presiding judge in the courtroom. There was one lawyer for the Crown and one opposition lawyer, who was pleading on behalf of the accused El Chami and Omar Rajab. The case was first bought into the light in the year 2015. The place of occurrence regarding the murder was Sydney. It was later transferred to the NSW Supreme Court. Through this case, the proceeding regarding the murder trial have been known invariably. Case Description: The murder case of Hedi Ayoub is proceeding before the New South Wales Supreme Court with the assistance of Justice David Davies and Elizabeth Fullerton as its Presiding Officers. I attended the court on 22nd July 2017. There were one Crown lawyer, who was proceeding on behalf of the States and one opposition lawyer who was pleaded on behalf of the accused. The name of the Crown lawyer is Sharon Willis and the name of the opposition lawyer was Greg James QC. This is a case of gang murder where Hedi Ayoub, a body builder from the continent of Sydney was the victim and Omar Rajab, Mohammad El Chemi, Ebrahim Allouche and Bilal Allouche were the offenders (Sergi 2017). The incident took place at an amusement park at Sydney. It was stated by the eye witness of the murder case that Omar Rajab was shot down Hedi Ayoub and the others were assisted Omar in the murder. It was stated by the accused that the victim was known to be an extortionist who extort money from the others. However, the friends and family of the victim told to the police that he was a bodybuilder and a business personnel and always tried to keep a safe distance from the bad people. The intention of the offenders was very clear. They had information that Ayoub had money with him and with an intention to grab the same, they had chalked a plan to kill him and snatch the money (Quilter et al. 2015). They had chased Ayoub in the day light on 29th June 2015 and at first shot at leg of the victim. When he tried to hide him behind a tree, one of the accused Omar Rajab mercilessly shot at his neck and killed him at an amusement park at Sydney. It was confessed by the accused that Hedi Ayoub was a violent money lender who used to collect money from the men and in case of non-payment, he shot them or beat them brutally. It was also stated by the offenders that two days before the murder, the victim was extort money from a friend of the prime accused, Omar Rajab and shot a several gun fire outside his house. There was a brawl made in between the victim and some of the friends of the accused and after two days, he was murdered and it was presumed that he was victimised for revenge. Statements of the advocates: According to the eye witnesses of the case, some passerby were heard a shout where some boys screamed that Omar, do not do it. Then there was a sound of gunshot. It was stated by the Crowns Advocate that Omar is from the criminal family and his father was accused of threatening one man to behead him for some religious purpose. It was also contended by the Crowns Advocate that Omar used to treat the common people badly and there were numerous cases of extortion pending against him. It was stated by the prime accused of the case, Omar Rajab that Hedi Ayoub was involved with the Hawcher family. This family is well known for its criminal passion and they were guilty of several offences. During the investigation process, it was stated by El Chami, co-accused that Ayoub was a debt collector who did not even care for the life of the people and snatch money from them by beating them up badly (Loke 2013). It was stated by the offenders that it was the victim who arranged the meeting on 29th June at the park where the murder was occurred. One day before the murder, Ayoub called him and told that if Omar somehow did not make the meeting, he will come to the house of Omar and beat his family badly. On that day, Omar shot at the leg of Ayoub with an intention to warn him so that he kept a safe distance from his family. However, asoon after the shot, Ayoub abused Omar and with the outrage, Omar shot gunfire at his neck and consequently, Ayoub was succumbed to death. All the offenders of the murder were alleged to wear a black mask on their face to hide their identity and other three offenders who were joined into the murder were prayed for bail as there were no evidence that can prove that they conjointly killed Hedi Ayoub. Alleged sections: The Crimes Act 1900 and Criminal Code Act 1995 govern the criminal law at New South Wales. There are certain other statutes that are applied in the criminal legislation of NSW such as the Summary Offences Act 1988. Prosecution in case of the criminal cases in NSW is particularly regularised by the Law Enforcement Act 2002. In this case, Omar Rajab was convicted under several sections of the Crimes Act 19000. He was convicted under section 12 for murder, section 21 for wounding, section 23 for inflicting bodily harm, section 27 for acts that endanger the life of others, section 35A for committing an affray. Others co-offenders were held liable for conjoin into the murder case and on the last occasion, Supreme Court justice David Davies granted their application for bail. Technical content of the case: There are certain personnel in the courtroom who are present in the courtroom and adjudge the case for the interest of justice. There are some common people in the courtroom that I had observed that day were the Judge or the presiding Officer of the court. There were the lawyers who were pleading on behalf of the crown and on behalf of the offenders, the accused parties and the families of the victim. There were certain eyewitnesses and some officers from the forensic department, the courtroom deputy, and certain police personnel and one courtroom deputy and Court reporter. The role of the every person is vital from his or her perspectives. There were two presiding officers at the courtroom, who were presided over the case by using their wide judicial power and knowledge and successes to keep a serious atmosphere in the courtroom. The lawyers on behalf of the Crown had given many legal provisions and legal precedents to make the base of the case strong. On the other hand, the defence lawyer encountered the allegation by stating his views over the issue and by cross-examined the witnesses from various aspects (Kaplan, Weisberg and Binder 2014). He examined the evidences that are obtained by the police regarding the case, and tried to his level best to prove that his parties are not liable for the alleged offence and tried to make an opportunity to scot them free. There were certain police personnel including the investigating officer who are investigating the case. Important evidences are obtained from the officers of the forensic department regarding the case and courtroom deputies were assisted the court with every possible aspects. The judges were using their jurisprudential mind to cope with the matter to come into a fruitful conclusion. Observation: I am gaining certain criminal theories during the study of the law and there were certain similarities found regarding the case law held at the courtroom. There are certain differences found regarding the practical lesson and the theoretical approaches. I have been came through the process of brief down the facts of the case, how to examine the witnesses, how to point out every possible aspects of the case, what is the atmosphere of the case and about the decision making power of the presiding officers. Conclusion: Therefore, from the above named discussion, it can be concluded that the murder trial of Hedi Ayoub was quite learning worthy chapter in my life and I have gained a lot from the murder trial. I have come across the facts that how a court is being composed of and what are the functions of the sitting officers of the court? The particulars of each member of the courtroom and the various legal provisions that are imposed on the convicts are also came to my knowledge References Cox, J., Clark, J.C., Edens, J.F., Smith, S.T. and Magyar, M.S., 2013. Drugs Usage in Sports
Drugs Usage in Sports Introduction During a 30- minute interview, I sat down with a former coach of mine and discussed drug usage among high school athletes. The coach touched upon a few issues concerning drug testing policies, drug education and awareness programs for coaches and athletes used at high schools in Mississippi.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Drugs Usage in Sports specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More INTERVIEWER: Are the incidents of drug abuse frequent among athletes and what measures are taken for improving the existing situation? COACH: The problems of drug use are a common scenario among young athletes that does not receive the proper attention. The main causes making athletes to look for performance-enhancing substances include their low self-esteem and willingness to enhance their chances for making outstanding achievements (Coakley, 2008). International Olympic Committee (IOC), National Collegiate Athletic Association (N CAA), and Professional Sports League united their efforts for developing drug testing policies as well as education and awareness programs for the purpose of ensuring drug-free environment for athletes and strengthening sport ethics. INTERVIEWER: Why do you think these measures can be ineffective? COACH: The main difficulties in implementing the drug testing and controlling policies are preconditioned with the main controversies of applying them in practice. On the one hand, drug-free environment is important for the health of athletes and integrity of sports. On the other hand, drug testing procedures frequently turn out to be ineffective. Partially violating the rights of athletes for privacy, these policies can result in the protests of athletes (Coakley, 2008). Additionally, athletes can use legal substances (aspirin) which can still be regarded as performance-enhancing, complicating the task of coaches suspecting them of drug use. INTERVIWER: As a high school coach, have you ev er faced the problem of drug use in your professional practice? COACH: Yes, I have faced this issue in my practice. Some athletes were certain that by using performance-enhancing drugs, they could improve their achievements.Advertising Looking for essay on communications media? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More INTERVIEWER: What can make you suspect an athlete of drug abuse? COACH: It can be seen from sportsmenââ¬â¢s behaviour and their performance. For instance, a player may start to lose concentration, not attend sessions or unexpectedly improve performance. For this reason, a coach has to take into account the previous observations of athletesââ¬â¢ performance and behavioural characteristics. INTERVIEWER: Can certain tests be used for defining the instances of drug abuse and in which cases these tests can be taken? COACH: Yes, drug screening tests can be used in case of reasonable doubt of a coach, tutor or p arent. Reasonable suspicion can be defined as the quantity of proof which is beyond mere intuition, but still lacks argumentation. As to an incident, it can be defined as a positive screening test or a situation in which an athlete was found in using or possessing certain banned substances. INTERVIEWER: Is there any possibility of getting false results of a drug screening test? COACH: If the first drug screening test is positive, athletes have to take a second one. Additionally, according to the drug testing policies of the state of Mississippi, if certain outside substances are found in the athleteââ¬â¢s urine, it is regarded as an attempt to disguise the results, and the test is automatically regarded as positive (Coakley, 2008). INTREVIEWER: Can you give examples of the most famous cases of drug abuse which can be used in education program for athletes for enhancing their awareness of possible physiological and psychological changes which can be caused by drug use?Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Drugs Usage in Sports specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More COACH: Snoop Dogg is a rapper who was arrested because of an incident of drug possession. Alanis Morissette is a singer who had undergone bulimia and anorexia drug addictions before she attained 18years. Cathy Rigby is a gymnast who suffered from an eating disorder. Christy Henrich is a gymnast who died because of anorexia complications. These famous people suffered or died because of drug abuse. INTERVIEWER: What awareness programs have been implemented for ensuring drug-free environment for students? COACH: Awareness programs for coaches and athletes have been established to educate and counsel young people on the effects of drugs. Additionally, participating in these programs, coaches can receive valuable information concerning the drug controlling and testing policies and act in accordance with the legislation norms of the state of Missi ssippi. Most high schools and youth leagues participate in these programs. Complying with NCAA regulations, Mississippi high schools pay attention to the three main elements of drug-related programs, including those of education, prevention and rehabilitation (University Microfilms International, 2005) INTERVIEWER: Are there campaign awareness programs for players only? COACH: Yes, they exist. These awareness programs are meant to create awareness about the effects of drugs on their health. The players are also encouraged to pass on the message to other upcoming players (University Microfilms International, 2005). INTERVIEWER: What measures need to be taken for enhancing the effectiveness of the existing programs and improving the results? COACH: I would recommend devoting more time to educational programs and enacting a procedure of random testing for all athletes which is currently prohibited by NCAA, but is still used in other states. Taking into account the incidence of drug abu se and possible consequences for the athletesââ¬â¢ health and sport ethics, I insist on taking critical measures.Advertising Looking for essay on communications media? Analysis of Eliza Doolittles Pygmalion Monologues
Analysis of Eliza Doolittles Pygmalion Monologues In the final scene of George Bernard Shaws play Pygmalion, the audience is surprised to learn that this is not the fairytale romance thatà the entire play has been building up to. Eliza Doolittle may be the Cinderella of the story, but Professor Henry Higgins is no Prince Charming and he cannot bring himself to commit to her. The fiery dialogue also transforms the play from comedy to drama as Elizas monologues are filled with passion. We see that she really has come a long way from that innocent flower girl that first appeared on stage. She is a young woman with a mind of her own and new-found opportunities in front of her though she does not quite know where to go now. We also see her slip back into her Cockney grammar as her temper flares. Though she catches and corrects herself, these are final reminders of her past as we wonder about her future. Eliza Expresses Her Desires Prior to this, Higgins has run through Elizas options for the future. It seems to him that her best prospect is to find a man unlike the confirmed old bachelors like me and the Colonel.à Eliza explains the relationship she desired from him. Itââ¬â¢s a tender scene that almost warms the Professorââ¬â¢s heart despite himself. ELIZA: No I dont. Thats not the sort of feeling I want from you. And dont you be too sure of yourself or of me. I could have been a bad girl if Id liked. Ive seen more of some things than you, for all your learning. Girls like me can drag gentlemen down to make love to them easy enough. And they wish each other dead the next minute. (much troubled) I want a little kindness. I know Im a common ignorant girl, and you a book-learned gentleman; but Im not dirt under your feet. What I done (correcting herself) what I did was not for the dresses and the taxis: I did it because we were pleasant together and I comecameto care for you; not to want you to make love to me, and not forgetting the difference between us, but more friendly like. When Eliza Realizes the Truth Unfortunately, Higgins is a permanent bachelor. When he is incapable of offering affection, Eliza Doolittle stands up for herself in this powerfully feisty monologue. ELIZA: Aha! Now I know how to deal with you. What a fool I was not to think of it before! You cant take away the knowledge you gave me. You said I had a finer ear than you. And I can be civil and kind to people, which is more than you can. Aha! Thats done you, Henry Higgins, it has. Now I dont care that (snapping her fingers) for your bullying and your big talk. Ill advertize it in the papers that your duchess is only a flower girl that you taught, and that shell teach anybody to be a duchess just the same in six months for a thousand guineas. Oh, when I think of myself crawling under your feet and being trampled on and called names, when all the time I had only to lift up my finger to be as good as you, I could just kick myself! Does Civility Equal Kindness? Higgins has readily admitted that he is fair in his treatment of everyone. If he is harsh with her, she should not feel bad because he is equally harsh most people he meets.à Eliza jumped on this and the realization forces a final decision from her, at least when it comes to Higgins. This also makes the audience wonder about the commentary on wealth and civility in relation to kindness and compassion. Was Eliza Doolittle as kind when she was living in the gutter? Most readers would say yes, yet it draws a stark contrast to Higgins excuse of unbiased severity. Why does a higher class of society come with less kindness and compassion? Is that really a better way of life? It seems that Eliza struggled with these questions herself. Where is the Happily Ever After Ending? The big question that Pygmalion leaves the audience with is: Doà Eliza and Higgins ever get together? Shaw did not initially say and he intended for the audience to decide for themselves. The play ends with Eliza saying goodbye. Higgins calls after her with, of all things, a shopping list! He is absolutely positive that she will return. In reality, we do not know what happens to the two characters of Pygmalion. This confounded early directors of the play (and the My Fair Lady movie) because many felt that the romance should have blossomed. Some had Eliza return with the necktie from Higgins shopping list. Others had Higgins toss Eliza a bouquet or follow her and beg her to stay. Shaw intended to leave the audience with an ambivalent conclusion. He wanted us to imagine what might happen because each of us will have a different perspective based on our own experiences. Maybe the romantic sort would have the two live happily ever after while those jaded by love would be happy to see her go out in the world and enjoy her independence. The directors attempts to change Shaws ending prompted the playwright to pen an epilogue: The rest of the story need not be shewn in action, and indeed, would hardly need telling if our imaginations were not so enfeebled by their lazy dependence on the ready-mades and reach-me-downs of the ragshop in which Romance keeps its stock of happy endings to misfit all stories.à Though he also gave arguments as to why Higgins and Eliza were incompatible, he did write a version of what happened after the final scene. One feels that it was done with reluctance and its almost a shame to pass along this ending, so if you want to retain your own version, it would be best to stop reading here (you really will not miss much). In his finale, Shaw tells us that Eliza does indeed marry Freddy and the couple opens a flower shop. Their life together is filled with dreariness and not too much success, a far cry from those romantic thoughts of the plays directors.

None - Essay Example Factors such as corruption and injustice have prevented the establishment of infrastructure in rural areas that would help in job creation. Leaders using public offices for personal gains have contributed to the migration. They include issues affecting the society such as education, health and security among others (Branigan 24). Some individuals move into urban areas to seek better health facilities due to lack of hospitals in rural areas. Higher learning institutions in major Chinese towns also attract students who later settle in these urban areas as they seek employment opportunities. Increasing population in some rural regions of China has also led to people migrating to less occupied urban centers. A persons health status in a city will depend on the economic stability of the individual. Most people in urban areas are employed, therefore, have a stable income part of which may be used in payment of health services. However, there are individuals who do not secure jobs in urban areas leading to low class settlement schemes such as slums. In China, the high population in urban areas has contributed to development low living standards where individuals do not have access to good health and education services. Individuals living in cities have access to improved health institutions with qualified doctors unlike in the rural areas where quacks have taken over the health sector. Since most rural regions in China have already invested in Agriculture, most individuals do not find the importance of education. In urban centers, children come up with jobs such as delivering counterfeit goods and drugs which have led to high insecurity rates. According to research, urban areas have higher insecurity rates than rural areas contributed to by increased rural-urban immigration. To survive in these Chinese cities, one had to come up with modern day strategies such as coming up with business ideas. Individuals should

Strategic Cultural Interventions at Wal-Mart Research Paper
Strategic Cultural Interventions at Wal-Mart - Research Paper Example It is against this backdrop that Louis (1980) is quoted by the Air University (2003) as explaining that organizational culture is ââ¬Å"a set of understandings or meanings shared by a group of people that are largely tacit among members and are clearly relevant and distinctive to the particular group which are also passed on to new membersâ⬠. The discussions above point to the fact that the organizational culture of an organization cannot be over emphasized, overlooked or underestimated in any way. As much as possible, all corporations and organizations must make it a prime priority of achieving a socially and commercially welcoming organizational culture. Because of this, this essay has been set out to critically look into the organizational culture of Wal-Mart Company, looking at the companyââ¬â¢s present organizational culture and evaluating how the present culture has impacted on the successes of the company and if any, suggest the way forward for the company in terms of its organizational culture. Current Organizational Culture Giving a clear cut definition or description of the organizational culture of Wal-Mart may be very difficult. This is because the public and especially the media tend to portray the company and many different ways. These ambiguities not withstanding, careful review of literature and scrutiny of media reports point to some common characteristics that run through the company and can therefore be generalized to be the companyââ¬â¢s organizational culture. In the first place, Wal-Mart has and believes in the culture of respect. The company portrays a high sense and level of respect for all its stakeholders including customers, suppliers and associates. The company also practices an open door system of governance whereby there is an open communication channel for all stakeholders; especially customers and suppliers to get their ideas through. There also is what the company refers to as the Sundown rules. With this culture, th e company answers to requests even after the companyââ¬â¢s usual closing hours. This is done in a bid to foster the culture of respect for meeting the customer at the point of his or her needs. Finally, there is an assumed and supposed servant leadership culture at Wal-Mart whereby it is said that Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart said that ââ¬Å""It's more important than ever that we develop leaders who are servants, who listen to their partners ââ¬â their associates ââ¬â in a way that creates wonderful morale to help the whole team accomplish an overall goal,â⬠â⬠(Wal-Mart, 2011). Assessment of the current organizational culture of Wal-Mart using Deep Assumption Model Having discussed the organizational culture of Wal-Mart above, this section of the write-up shall be used to give deep assumptions interpretations to assess the current organizational culture of the company. Cummings and Worley (2009) explain that deep assumptions are very important because they r epresent the deepest levels of an organizationââ¬â¢s culture that is generally unexamined. These assumptions shall be considered because as Cummings and Worley (2009) put it, they are ââ¬Å"tacit and shared assumptions that guide member behavior and that often have a powerful impact on organization effectiveness.â⬠Among some unexamined assumptions behind the culture of Wal-Ma

How to Maintain Good Laboratory Practice
How to Maintain Good Laboratory Practice Good laboratory practice Introduction Good laboratory practice have principles which give structure to the studies of which they are planned, performed, monitored, recorded, reported and archived. These studies are undertaken to generate data by which the hazards and risks to users, consumers including the environment, can be assessed for pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, veterinary medicines, industrial chemicals, cosmetics, food and feed additives and biocides. Purpose Good laboratory practice provides results from the study which are reliable and can be used for making risk/safety assessments. The Good laboratory practice regulations provide an interpretation of the terminology used in defining the elements of GLP. Here are few examples Study plan ââ¬â this is a document which shows why an experiment is being carried out and how it should be performed in order to comply with Good laboratory practice. Study Director- dealing with Good laboratory compliant Study personnel- all the people that carry out the experiments Study initiation Date ââ¬â Date that the study first signs the study plan Study Plan Amendment ââ¬â an intended change to study plan after the initial study date Standard operating procedures ââ¬â sufficiently detailed work instructions to allow the procedure to be repeated exactly the same way each time by any operator. Findings Raw materials Raw materials are reagents used in processing. They are classified regarding identification of samples for example Enzymes which are used in the study. Storage instructions Expiry date Quality e.g. purity of a chemical Source of the material, preparation date and stability Cell culture Equipment maintenance and calibration All the equipment must be clean to function reliably. For each piece of equipment there should be: A number for identification of the apparatus. A calibration check (should be traceable to national or international standards) Validation that equipment fir for purpose Staff should be trained to use equipment Operating and parameters Clean equipment Data logging and tracking Transport Delivering chemicals by roads or by train have the possibilities of accidents. If there is a leak it could cause a spillage which can cause cars to slide and hit each other which could potentially lead to an explosion which could cause fatalities as well as damage to the nearby surroundings. Customer services The aim is to build up a trust between clients and the company. Any reported problem from any client should be followed up and dealt with to the highest standard possible. Labelling, storage, packing All the reagents must be fully labelled with: Name of reagent Who made it? Date the item was prepared Expiry date Storage conditions Hazard labels Name of the company or institution If the reagent is not labelled there is no evince of what it is! Storing/Packing of data Materials required to be stored include: The study plan, raw data, samples of test and reference items, specimens and final report of each study The records of all inspection performed by the quality assurance Personal records Records and reports of the maintenance and calibration of equipment Validation documentation for computerise systems SOPs Environmental monitoring records The materials retained should be properly indexed and movement of information should be noted. Training For high quality GLP training, you need experienced Course Directors. Each Course Directors have to be from senior level scientific, regulatory and management positions in a variety of organisations and industries. Procedures SOPs stands for Standard operating producers SOPs is a factor which in the production of products fit for their intended use. All the operators must be aware of all the relevant SOPs and implement them correctly. If there is a failure carrying them out correctly it means that it can lead to the production of products harmful, and potentially lethal to customers. Implementing of quality standards for example what must happen in a work place to ensure compliance? Everyone in the lab should know what they are doing. In implementing Good Lab Practice the study director is the single point of control for a given study and has the responsibility for its overall conduct and finial report. Standard Operating procedures A key aspect of the study personnelââ¬â¢s role in ensuring good lab practice compliance in their work is the writing and implementation of standard operating procedures. These are work instruction, which are accurately detailed to allow the procedure to be repeated exactly the same way each time by any operator Internal mentoring Those who have been in long term employment would be expected to encourage and support new and younger staff members. Giving guidance where it is needed. Quality assurance (QA) Quality assurance refers to all actions necessary to provide confidence that the product or service will satisfy the prescribed requirement for quality. QA involves the setting up of a quality system, and overseeing that this system is being implemented correctly. In short, quality assurance does exactly what it says. By considering all the aspects of the business process it ensures that the work being done will meet the required standard. The responsibilities of the Quality Assurance: maintain copies of all approved study plans and Standard Operating Procedures in use in the test facility and have access to an up-to-date copy of the master schedule Verify that the study plan contains the information required for compliance with these Principles of Good Laboratory Practice. Recording of primary data Log Book is a primary source of raw data in any process. It provides evidence which may be used in a court law it might also be sued in patent applications or used as a cross reference in auditing work. Monitoring temperatures in incubators or fridges Monitoring temperature is very important in lab. For the operation of fridges and freezers we need to consider what temperature should it run at ? The required limit e.g. 4oC +/- -2oC All fridges used for the storage of medicines must have the temperature monitored daily to ensure the correct storage of those medicines. Maintenance of log book: Bound note book should only be used. The hand writing should be clear so that operators can understand it. Blue or black ink must be used in order to prevent fading and allow documents to be photocopied easily. All pages should be numbered to prevent pages being removed. All data should be recorded. All data should be verified through the use of signatures and witnesses. Correction should be verified by being signed and dated. Blank lines or pages should be crossed out with a diagonal line signed and dated. All detailed information about instruments, samples, materials, and equipment should be included. The logbook should be stored in a secure location. Regulator Bodies which are involved in ensuring compliance with the chosen standard are the governments and the trade association. Inspectors carry out biennial inspections of all labs within the UK that perform regulatory studies that require to be conducted to Good Lab Practice After a satisfactory inspection by GLPMA, be issued with a statement of GLP compliance. The GLPMA provides information to trade association and other Governments departments on aspects of GLP. Regulators: Governments The Governments are responsible for enforcing the regulations in GLP on the behalf of the UK Monitoring Authority MHRA Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Veterinary Medicines Directorate (DEFRA) Pesticides safety Directorate (DEFRA) Food standard Agency for example feed addictives, novel and foods, food additives and food contaminants ) Health and safety executive Environment Agency Trade associations Monitoring compliance; Association of British pharmaceutical industry Association of consultant bioscience industry Crop protection association British Association of research quality Assurance Chemical aspects of Toxicology Discussion Group. Avarice in the Crucible
Cambria Anderson Petersen AP English III/Period 3 11 November 2012 Avarice and Vengeance in The Crucible The play The Crucible takes place during the Salem Witch Trials of the 1800s. Yet Arthur Miller does not reveal the tragedy of the witch trials in the manner expected. Miller expresses the underlying causes of the accusations made as those stemming from personal greed and the feeling of revenge. Abigail Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Putnam, and Reverend Samuel Parris all have their own agendas as to why they ââ¬Å"cry witchâ⬠on others in their village.Miller outlines the history between Abigail Williams and John Proctor in Act One: Abigail was removed from the Proctor home by Elizabeth, Proctorââ¬â¢s wife, because of an affair happening between her and Proctor. Because of this, Abigail harbors a hate and jealousy towards Elizabeth. In Act Two, a warrant was sent for Elizabethââ¬â¢s arrest: The girl, the Williams girl, Abigail Williams, sir. She sat to dinner in Reverend Parr isââ¬â¢ house tonight, and without word nor warninââ¬â¢ she falls to the floor.Like a struck beast, [Parris] says, and screamed a scream that a bull would weep to hear. And [Parris] goes to save her, and, stuck two inches in the flesh of her belly, he draw a needle out. And demandinââ¬â¢ of her how she come to be so stabbed, she [â⬠¦] testify it were your wifeââ¬â¢s familiar spirit pushed it in. (Miller 79) Abigail knew that from the beginning of the witch scare that she could exact revenge on those who she felt wronged her or took something from her, which would be the case of Elizabeth.Abigail knew Mary Warren made a doll, and was planning to give it to Elizabeth; she also saw Mary Warren stick the needle back in. Abigail took advantage of the situation to provide seemingly irrefutable evidence of witchcraft on Elizabethââ¬â¢s part. Through this, Proctor sees that vengeance runs these trials, and how easily people turn on one another to get what they want. Proct or also knows that Abigailââ¬â¢s revenge has no limits; she has no shame, and always believes that she is right, much like the character of her uncle, Reverend Parris. At this point, Proctor had to juggle keeping his past a secret from the public and protecting Elizabeth, as Abigail will turn on anyone who ââ¬Å"wrongsâ⬠her. Mr. Thomas Putnam and Mrs. Ann Putnam have a sorrowful history of losing their newborn children, while only having one that survives. Mrs. Putnam finds comfort in blaming their midwife, Sarah Osburn, for the deaths, saying, ââ¬Å"I begged [Thomas] not to call Osburn because I feared her. My babies always shriveled in her hands! (I. 50). Mrs. Putnam finds that crying witch on Goody Osburn would solve the ââ¬Å"murderâ⬠of her children, yet does not desire to take into account her own role in her pregnancy, being that Miller says she is fourty-five years old (I. 13). Mrs. Putnam, in a way, wants someone to feel the pain of losing seven children, be ing that she is a selfish woman ââ¬â putting her child in the dangers of witchcraft to find the identity of the person who ââ¬Å"killedâ⬠her babies.Accusing someone of witchcraft, and potentially running their life, was the perfect way to exact her so-called ââ¬Å"revengeâ⬠. Although Reverend Parris never accused anyone of witchcraft, he refuses to defend Proctor of any charges brought up against him ââ¬â from insulting the court to claims of witchcraft. In Act Three, Parris takes Proctorââ¬â¢s depositions from Corey Giles and Mary Warren personally, warning Judge Danforth that ââ¬Å"[â⬠¦] since [he] come to Salem [Proctor] is blackening [his] name [â⬠¦]â⬠(110) and ââ¬Å"[Proctor]ââ¬â¢s come to overthrow this court, Your Honor! (97). Aside from trying to protect his reputation, Parris makes such allegations about Proctor in an attempt to prove Proctor as an unreliable messenger. Parris wants to get vengeance for what he feels Proctor has do ne to him, just as Abigail wants revenge on Elizabeth. But, these alleged wrong-doings have only come from Parrisââ¬â¢s mouth; he seems to enjoy taking things personal when they come from Proctor, and the courtroom scene is the perfect place for Parris to return the hate he feels from Proctor. The Salem Witch Trials proved to be a time of tragedy and mass hysteria as accusations ran rapidly through the small Massachusetts village. The source of the witchcraft charges came from the village peopleââ¬â¢s personal greed and want of retribution, as well as many other contributing factors. Abigail, Parris, and the Putnams all used this situation to their advantage, hoping to get some personal satisfaction out of their charges, thus ruining lives of their victims: Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor, and Sarah Osburn.
